China’s meteoric rise in the sporting world has produced hundreds of Olympic gold medalists.

Mark Dreyer’s new book “Sporting Superpower: An insider’s view on China’s quest to be the best”, gives insight into his 15 years of in-depth interactions with a wide variety of sports personalities in the country.

In this conversation, Mark and Emmanuel discuss how the Chinese sports machinery works, the emerging issues with new strong personalities, and also the sports China is not good at. They also discuss more broadly how sports features in China’s political and social development as a country.
