Americans are especially interested to know if they will not dominate the global financial system. I take them back to first principles to remind them that America did not start by wanting to dominate global the financial system. It was a process that ended up with more dollars floating outside the US than in the US. Any country that aspires to overtake the US in the financial system has to have a certain sense of abandon about how the rest of the world will do with their currency.
